Emma Bell

I am a long-time feminist, mum to a wonderful son and living in Hackney, London. I am interested in the links between gender equality, HIV, violence against women and girls and sexual and reproductive health and rights. Six years working with the International Community of Women Living with HIV (ICW) sparked my passion to support movement-building to address these links.

Of course, life would not be as rich without my family and friends. I’m amazed at my son’s joy of life and when not working, I love playing games with him and ferrying him and his friends to the park and their various activities.

  • What would be your personal motto? ‘Do as you would be done by’ I also like ‘it’s the cracks that let the light in’.
  • Do you have any skills or talents that most people don’t know about? I can make a delicious salsa and a great vodka sour.
  • What is your favourite journey? The journey by train to Sussex (UK) to see my family, especially crossing the Ouse Valley Viaduct.
